Growers Wanted!

BOTH Collective is now looking for medicinal cannabis growers to join us for the NW Cannabis Crown. If you think you've got the best medicine in Seattle, come prove it! Put your strain against nine others in our upcoming event.

It doesn't cost growers anything to submit their strain, and the winner will be featured as Strain of the Month at BOTH Collective (we'll carry up to 1/4 lb. of the strain and compensate the winner generously).

Growers do NOT have to be at the NW Cannabis Crown event (January 14, 7:30-10pm) in order to win. Send us an e-mail if you're interested in submitting your very best strain (contact@bothcollective.com), or stop by during our normal operating hours.

In Local Medical Cannabis News

Check out this recent article about qualifying conditions for medicinal cannabis authorization.

From the article:
State officials will consider a request to allow medical marijuana for people with attention deficit disorder and obsessive compulsive disorder. The petition is the latest attempt to add a mental illness to Washington's list of qualifying conditions for medical cannabis. Three other petitions, for depression and other mental health disorders, have been denied.

Here's some of the latest in local medical marijuana news. From the Seattle Times:

"A lawsuit, filed by longtime marijuana defense attorney Douglas Hiatt, accuses the city of legal hypocrisy by requiring dispensary owners to get licenses, pay taxes and abide by zoning laws while the city is also enforcing drug-nuisance laws."

Colorado Supports Medical Marijuana Reclassification

After governors Gregoire and Chaffee filed the petition asking the Federal government to reclassify medical marijuana as Schedule II, other political figures have made statements regarding their support of further legalizing medical marijuana.

In the latest news (click to read the full article), Colorado governor John Hickenlooper has stated that he will file his own petition to reclassify the drug within the state he represents.

From the article:
“This is a good first step, in that it shows that politicians are catching up with the scientific consensus, which is that marijuana has medical value,” said Rob Kampia, executive director of the Marijuana Policy Project. “If it succeeds, federal law will finally acknowledge that fact."

Medical Marijuana Patient Defends Self In Court Case

Medical marijuana patient and BOTH Collective friend Tyler Markwart is making headlines in his recent legal struggles over medicinal marijuana legislation.

Tyler (left) was arrested after refusing to sell medicinal marijuana to an undercover drug task force detective who lacked the proper documentation to complete the transaction.

From the Pacific Northwest Inlander:
Markwart, 30, was attending Washington State University when he was arrested. He had been president of the campus chapter of Students for a Sensible Drug Policy. He started Allele Seeds Research, his own company to create high-quality marijuana strains. And he suggested to university leaders at an open budget forum one year ago that WSU, with its strong agricultural research programs, could resolve state budget cutbacks by planting and selling a single outdoor crop of marijuana for medical use.

Medicinal Cannabis Increases, Traffic Accidents Decrease?

Time Magazine just posted an article (click to read) about a new study on medical marijuana. In the states that have legalized marijuana dispensaries, fatal traffic incidents have decreased by about 9%!

From the article:
Driving under the influence of marijuana seems to be less risky because people who are high tend to be aware that they are impaired and compensate, while alcohol tends to increase recklessness and create false confidence. Also, people are more likely to smoke weed at home or in private, rather than out at bars or other public events that require driving to get to.
